Update inventory items

Update existing inventory item information directly in the table with inline editing and real-time validation.

Access the inventory items page

Navigate to the Inventory items page in the Serializer app.

Edit item values

1. Click into any field you want to change (e.g., serial number, custom fields)

2. Edit the value

3. Repeat for other field items as needed—you can edit multiple items before saving

4. The contextual save bar appears at the top when there are any unsaved changes

Fields with strikethrough text are no longer tracked for this variant and cannot be edited. To edit the fields, enable field tracking in product preferences.

Save changes

1. Click Save in the contextual save bar at the top navigation bar

2. The app validates your changes and updates the items

3. A success message confirms the update

To discard changes, click Discard in the contextual save bar.

Understanding validation errors

If validation fails, an error banner displays at the top of the page. Common errors:

Error message	Meaning	Solution
"[Field name] can't be blank"	Mandatory field is empty	Fill in the required field
"[Field name] already in use"	Duplicate value for the same variant. These are validated across both sold and inventory items.	Use a unique value for this variant

Fix the errors and click Save again.
