Add items manually
Add inventory items for up to 250 product variants using an interactive form with multi-value input fields.
Access the Add items page
Navigate to the Inventory items page in the Serializer app
Click Add items (top right)
Select product variants
Click Browse on the Add items page
Search for and select product variants in the modal (up to 250 variants)
Click Add to confirm your selection
Selected variants appear as cards, each with input fields for tracked data.
Enter values for tracked fields
For each variant card, enter unique values for the tracked fields:
Click into an input field (e.g., serial numbers, custom fields)
Enter a value and press one of the following:
Comma (,)
Space
Return/Enter
The captured value appears as a tag above the input field

When a variant has multiple tracked fields, values are matched by position. For example, if you enter three serial numbers and three custom field values, the first serial number and first custom field value are assigned to Item 1, the second serial number and second custom field value to Item 2, and so on.

Repeat to add more values
Alternatively, use the scanner button (mobile Shopify admin and POS apps only) on the right of the input field to scan barcodes or QR codes
Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory and must be filled before saving.
Save items
Click Save in the contextual save bar at the top
The app validates your entries and creates the inventory items
You're redirected to the Inventory items page
To discard changes, click Discard in the contextual save bar.
Understanding validation errors
If validation fails, an error banner displays at the top of the page. Common errors:
"[Value] already taken for this product variant"
Duplicate value for the same variant. Currently, only serial numbers on hand must be unique.
Remove the duplicate or use a unique value
"X items exceeding inventory on hand"
The number of entered items is above the total amount of inventory across all location
Reduce the number of values to match the total quantity on hand
"[Field name] can't be blank"
Mandatory field (configured in the app settings) is empty
Fill in the required field
Fix the errors and click Save again.
Tips
Paste multiple values: Copy comma-separated, space-separated or line-separated values and paste them into a field—they'll automatically split into individual tags
Remove a tag: Click the ✕ icon on any tag to remove it
Scanner support: On mobile devices, use the scanner button for quick barcode/QR code entry

After adding items, view them on the Inventory items page or assign them to orders or POS cart.
