Enable tracking on the product page in admin

Enable tracking preferences directly from Shopify Admin product and variant detail pages using the "Tracking preferences" app block.

Initial setup (one-time)

Follow these steps once to add the "Tracking preferences" block to your product and variant pages:

  1. Navigate to any product or variant page in Shopify Admin

  2. Scroll down to locate the "App blocks" section

  3. Click "+ App block"

  4. Select "Tracking preferences" (with the Serializer app logo)

  1. (Optional) Click "Pin to page for all staff" (top right corner of the page)

The "Tracking preferences" block is now visible on all product and variant pages for all staff members.

Access the tracking preferences block

For products with a single variant

  1. Navigate to Products in Shopify Admin

  2. Click on a product that has only one variant (the default variant)

  3. Scroll down to locate the "Tracking preferences" block

For products with multiple variants

Products with multiple variants display a banner instead of the configuration form:

  1. Navigate to Products in Shopify Admin

  2. Click on a product with multiple variants

  3. You'll see a message: "Product contains variants - Configure tracking on the product variant's page"

  4. Click on the specific variant you want to configure

  5. Scroll down to locate the "Tracking preferences" block on the variant page


Configure tracking preferences

  1. Check "Track individual items" to enable tracking for this variant

  1. Under "Tracked item input fields", select which fields to track:

    • Serial number (automatically included and currently cannot be deselected)

    • Custom fields (any fields configured in your app Settings)

    • Warranty duration (check to enable warranty tracking)

  2. If you selected Warranty duration, enter the default warranty:

    • Enter a numeric value in the duration field (minimum: 1)

    • Select a duration unit from the dropdown: Days, Months, or Years

  1. Click "Save" in the Shopify contextual save bar (top right of the page)

The variant's tracking preferences are now configured.
