# Shopify POS "Add customer" Smart Grid action

These steps are no longer recommended because they're slow. To add customers to the POS cart faster and more reliably, please use the new ["Add customer" POS UI extension](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/add-customers-to-the-pos-cart.md).

1. Add the native POS "Add customer" action to the [Smart Grid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=50\&v=JP8rqSYlgVI\&feature=youtu.be).
2. Tap on the added action.
3. Scan the auto-generated customer's QR code using the second scanner.
4. Tap on the found record to add the customer to the POS cart.

Generally, any [**Bluetooth 2D barcode scanner** that supports **HID**](/barcodify-customer-selector/troubleshooting/faqs/what-scanner-should-i-get-for-customer-barcodes.md) (Human Interface Device) mode and is compatible with your device could scan customer QR codes.
