# Bring your customer barcodes to the app

"Barcodify - Customer Selector" can [automatically create customer barcodes](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/share-app-generated-barcodes-with-customers.md) with Shopify customer IDs encoded for you. However, if your customers already use barcodes of a different format, you'd need to pair them with the app.

{% hint style="info" %}
Follow the subpages of this guide if your customers own physical cards (or other objects) with Use the guides in this section if your customers already have physical cards (or other items) with unique barcodes that Shopify can't use to find customers.

If your customers don't already have physical barcodes, **I recommend using** [**barcodes generated by the app**](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/share-app-generated-barcodes-with-customers.md) instead.

Pairing your existing barcode values only makes them searchable within this app. They won't become searchable elsewhere in Shopify.

If you want more control over your barcode design than the app provides (for example, custom styling), you can generate your own barcodes. In that case, I recommend encoding the Shopify Customer ID in the barcode. This lets Shopify find customers directly, so you don't need to pair the barcode values with the app. Customer ID lookups are also the fastest way to search for customers.

There are four methods to pair custom barcodes with the app:

1. [Enter barcodes in the admin version of the app](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/bring-your-customer-barcodes-to-the-app/enter-barcodes-in-admin.md)
2. [Enter barcodes in the POS customer profile](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/bring-your-customer-barcodes-to-the-app/enter-barcodes-in-pos.md)
3. [Import barcodes](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/bring-your-customer-barcodes-to-the-app/import-barcodes.md)
4. [Use a customer metafield as barcode](/barcodify-customer-selector/getting-started/bring-your-customer-barcodes-to-the-app/use-a-customer-metafield-as-barcode.md)
